Election to Common Council March 2009

George MacLean

Ward Elections to the Corporation of London Council are on 13-16 March. I am standing as an Independent and will do my utmost to represent the businesses, workers and residents of Langbourn Ward.

I work in Gracechurch Street and use Leadenhall Market daily, and have noticed the decline in the range of shops and businesses in the area over the last four years. It is time to stem this decline and see as wide a range of businesses returning to the Market, making it attractive to visitors and regular users alike.

I would like to see more cigarette bins provided outside businesses. The Market looks depressingly filthy at lunchtime with the cigarette butts in the gutters and drains. Our local road-sweepers do an excellent job of tidying up throughout the day, but they cannot be expected to sweep the same area constantly and there should be facilities throughout the Market to allow litter to be safely and securely left.

More About Me

I believe the Ward is best served by someone who works in the area and sees what is needed to encourage a thriving, welcoming and successful heart to the City. I work as a Training Consultant for a hedge fund IT company based in Gracechurch Street, in the heart of Langbourn Ward since 2005, and prior to this worked as a Technical Analyst in King William Street. I am a Technical Analyst by profession and am an examiner in Technical Analysis for two professional bodies and I lecture in the subject at the LSE part time. I have been previously a School Governor in the London Borough of Islington and a Member of the Admissions and Appeals Tribunal, also in Islington. I am active in charity work which encourages restoration of stone and woodwork in important buildings.

I am a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Bakers and is a member of the Langbourn Ward Club.
